*** Greatest Gainer

Chart Notes:
PJ Harvey makes a tremendous leap up the chart this week, nearly overtaking Sonic
Youth. "The Letter" doesn't miss by much; there is less than a 5% difference between it
and chart champ "Unmade Bed," and "Letter" has quite a bit more momentum, so it will likely
take over next week
Even if Sonic Youth only holds the number one position for a single week, it's enough
to add another notch to their belt. They've been to the top six times now, starting with
in 1988 with "Teenage Riot" from the all-time classic Daydream Nation album, and including
"Kool Thing" (Goo, 1990), "100%" (Dirty, 1992), "Bull in the Heather (Experimental Jet
Set..., 1994), and "The Empty Page" (Murray Street, 2002). They've got a ways to go
before unseating R.E.M., who hold the record with eleven number one hits!
In a just-below-the-chart note: those who have been paying attention will note that
"Foregone Conclusion" is Pedro the Lion's fourth title to appear in the Up and Coming list
in the past few weeks. All four songs have just missed the top thirty, probably from
competing with one another for attention. Don't let the lack of a chart hit keep you from
checking out the wonderful Achilles Heel album.

Up and Coming:
   Hives - "Walk Idiot Walk"
   RJD2 - "Exotic Talk"
   Ryan Adams - "Wonderwall"
Pedro the Lion - "Foregone Conclusions"

Deeper Cuts:
Helio Sequence - "Don't Look Away"
