Chart Notes:
Modest Mouse is on the verge of setting a pair of College Air longevity records,
and nothing and nobody seems capable of stopping them. There is no obvious competition
for the number one spot, which means next week they will likely log a record eighth week
on top. That will break the current three-way tie held by Sonic Youth ("The Empty Page"),
the Postal Service ("Such Great Heights"), and the Walkmen ("The Rat").
Furthermore, unless "Float On" manages to sink at a record speed, it will become the
chart longevity champ, breaking the two-way tie of Radiohead ("There, There"), and
Grandaddy ("Now It's On") in order to become College Air's undisputed champ.
For those who pay attention to the mainstream, "Float On" has also climbed to number
three on the Modern Rock charts, and could become the second song in a year to top both
the indie and commercial lists. The White Stripes spent three weeks at number one on
Modern Rock in July after spending six weeks at number one on College Air in April and
May.
Up and Coming:
Hayden - "Home by Saturday"
Les Sans Culottes - "Allô Allô (Hello I Love You)"
Auf der Maur - "Followed the Waves"
Deeper Cuts:
Magnetic Fields - "I Don't Really Love You Anymore"
